Other Characters: Ryunosuke Naruhodo
IC:
Character Name: Elan Ceres (AKA Enhanced Person No. 5)
Age: 17~ (technically unconfirmed, but he's a 3rd year student at school so he's somewhere in the 17-18 range)
Canon: Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury
Canon Point: Post Episode 20
History:
My history section comes w/ a fucking glossary bc. Anime.
Mobile Suit: Big mech, usually humanoid in shape.
Gundam: A SPECIFIC rare and illegal type of mobile suit that uses the GUND Format to operate. Using the GUND format means the machine interfaces with the pilot's neurology directly, something which is achieved via Permet particles.
Permet: The magic space mineral that makes technology work in this canon. It's super useful, but too much direct exposure also kills you.
Lots of people in WFM pilot Mobile Suits, but very very few pilot Gundams.
Enhanced Person: The in-universe term for a sad anime teen who's been altered by an evil corporation (Peil Technologies) to have an artificial permet resistant nervous system, created for the explicit purpose of test piloting Gundams (and Gundam Accessories)
History portion of the wiki entry, which for some reason it doesn't include everything up to the canon point that I'm apping from, so. Here's the rest:
After fleeing Peil and going into hiding at Grassley House, 5 had the unfortunate experience of actually finding another person to whom he could truly relate: an Earthian girl known as Norea du Noc. Realizing they were both people who had no choice but to pilot machines which would slowly kill them the more they operated them, he started to sympathize with her, and grew more curious about her... Although the interest didn't appear to be at all mutual.
Time passed. Prospera Mercury succeeded in tricking the Benerit and Earthian forces into fighting each other once more. Hearing of the bloodshed and destruction that was happening back on her home turf, Norea flipped out, got in her Gundam, and began to attack the school in retaliation, killing many students and faculty. Not wanting to see Norea put down, 5 did the one thing he'd been determined to never do again: he boarded a Gundam once more, then flew out to meet her.
Hovering together up in Asticassia air space, he tried to talk her into escaping the school with him, telling her that they both deserved to live, and that they could figure everything out as long as they were together. Norea appears to reject his pleas, pulling away from him... But not before asking him to tell her his real name "next time".
Those words are barely out of her mouth when a Dominicus sniper's beam rifle blasts through her mobile suit, killing her instantly. Seeing all this, 5 freaks the fuck out, kills a bunch of Dominicus pilots with his Gundam Rage, and does what he does best: runs.
Personality:
Peil's CEO grannies describe 5's personality as being "twisted" the same way that the original Elan Ceres is. Whatever the hell that means.
PROBABLY this means that they're both scheming little assholes who are willing to act in underhanded ways to get what they want.
5 is terrified of dying and nearly every major decision he makes is motivated by a desire to stay alive. It's why he slacks off and refuses to raise his permet score when piloting the Pharact, and it's why he's willing to creep on Suletta and steal and lie in order to stay on Peil's good side. He knows they have the power to execute him if he fails, and he will do just about anything to avoid that fate.
It's not that he's unaware that what he's doing is untoward, either; at a later canon point, he does apologize to Suletta for his behavior without any prompting from anyone.
Playing out his role as Elan, he tries very very hard to put on an air of being unruffled/unaffected by most things, usually navigating through life with a polite and princely little smile on his face.
Despite his cheery outward appearance, he's a very bitter person on the inside. He has little sympathy or interest in other people's problems most of the time, probably because he sees himself as being fairly high-ranked in the Misery Olympics. Unknown circumstances in his life put him in a position where the only way he could stay alive was by having his face changed and taking on the role of Elan, a position that also puts his life in danger on a regular basis from any number of threats. Given all that, why should he give a fuck about anyone else?
Norea first catches his interest when she makes some observation about how the Spacians at Asticassia have access to various privileges such as clean air, clean water, and plentiful food. She says that looking at it all "makes her sick", and as she walks away Elan comments to himself that she is a 'kindred spirit'. Resentful of the status quo, resentful of the hands they've been dealt, resentful of being viewed as disposable.
His fear of dying seems to be largely motivated by a resentment that he's barely gotten to live; his voice actor for the Japanese version describes him interviews as having a more hedonistic and indulgent attitude than his predecessor, No. 4, who basically denied himself the opportunity to feel desire for anything.
Despite his attempts to act as if he's above everything, he is extremely desperate for human connection... But he is hindered from achieving this by the fact that there are very few people in the world who understand what it actually means to pilot a gundam. His craving to find someone to relate to is telegraphed pretty clearly by how hard and fast he falls for Norea, who is the first person he actually demonstrates any sympathy towards.
Peil alters the memories of their Enhanced Persons so they forget pretty much everything about their previous lives. Therefore, 5 has no knowledge of any family or friends, he doesn't remember what his name used to be, and he doesn't have a birthday to celebrate. How Sad.
Abilities:
Despite being called an "Enhanced" Person, he doesn't really have any impressive supernatural level abilities.
- Artifical nervous system means he can interface directly with permet-based technology and... Not die as quickly as a non-enhanced person would?? Little relevance to this game but IT'S THE ONE THING HE'S GOT GOING FOR HIM, OK
- He's probably also augmented/trained to put up with the typical physical demands that come with piloting any kind of mobile suit.
- Knows about getting around in Zero G and is pretty damn good at it.
- Knows how to use a gun, and is a pretty decent shot.
- Also knows how to pickpocket guns off people without them noticing. :)
- Intelligent/well educated enough to fake his way through the role of one of Asticassia's top students.
Inventory:
- A small sketchbook full of drawings that used to belong to Norea du Noc.
- An Asticassia Institute of Technology "Student ID" (basically a smart phone)
- Pocket taser 8/
Eternal Reward:
Bring him and Norea back to life please and thanks. Ideally in a scenario where they can be like, happy and normal, but he'll take whatever he can get tbh.
Goals/Ideas:
So like, here's the thing: 5's afraid of dying. So... He's not going to be very pleased about the possibility that he might've bit the dust?? HOWEVER... Being in Requiem actually affords him w/ more freedom to do whatever the fuck he wants than he's ever had before. So he's going to be kind of grappling with how he feels about that for a while, I think!
Once he decides that he's gonna live it up a bit, that I think he's probably going to wind up getting involved in crime... I guess unless he meets an influence good enough to steer him away from that?? Who knows. Maybe he'll get involved with The Symphony.
Ultimately it would be nice if he could eventually reach some level of self actualization, but at least at the start of his tenure I'm going to primarily be looking to make him Worse.
